About the event
We sometimes forget that QWHA was in the forefront of recognising heritage place during in the 1950s and 1960s. Through the plaque system and the many “pilgrimages” to various places, the early members gained an understanding of the historical places in Queensland, many of which feature on modern heritage registers.
About the speaker
Fiona Gardiner has been a member of QWHA since the 1980s and could not be better qualified to talk about QWHA and the making of the Queensland Heritage Register. She is a heritage consultant and for 13 years was the Director of Heritage in the former Environment Department. She was responsible for the administration of the Queensland Heritage Act 1992 and strategic heritage projects that advanced the conservation of Queensland's heritage places.
