About the event

Martha Young was a powerful force in the development of QWHA. She became president in 1954 and under her guidance QWHA membership grew and the collection expanded enormously. Martha initiated the blue plaques scheme and was instrumental in finding the house that would become Miegunyah House Museum.

Sharyn Merkley has looked through her extensive correspondence to gain a glimpse of the person, her ambitions and her influence. Join Sharyn as she delves into this fascinating individual.

We acknowledge the Jagera and Turrbal people as the Traditional Custodians of the Country we live and work on at Miegunyah. We recognise their continuing connection to the land, waterways and skies, and thank them for protecting this region and its ecosystems since time immemorial. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and extend that respect to all First Nations people, acknowledging too that they never ceded sovereignty of the land, skies and waterways.
